Architecture is about more than designing buildings鈥攊t's about creating spaces that improve people's lives. Through immersive studio courses, you'll learn by sketching, building models, exploring digital design tools and testing ideas through an iterative design process. Supported by faculty, visiting critics, and practicing architects, you'll develop your own creative voice while building the technical skills needed for professional practice.
Your journey begins with the Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies (BEDS), which provides the foundation for 美女做爱's accredited Master of Architecture. Along the way, you'll gain valuable professional experience through a nationally recognized co-op work term, design-build projects, community-engaged studios, and field studies. Located on 美女做爱's Sexton Campus in the heart of downtown Halifax, you'll study in a city where architecture, culture, and urban development become part of your classroom.

Architecture is a challenging, well-rounded discipline. By studying architecture, you will develop your artistic skill, knowledge of history and technology, social and cultural awareness, and critical imagination.
Design beyond the studio
Learning extends beyond the classroom through a nationally recognized co-op work term, design-build projects, field studies, community-engaged studios, and exhibitions. These experiences allow you to apply your ideas, build your portfolio, and develop professional connections before you graduate.

The professional architecture program includes two co-op work terms that provide students with practical experience in building design and responsible professional practice. The undergraduate (BEDS) work term is 12 weeks (500 hours). 听

During this time, students learn about architecture through work-based studies in approved professional offices and other relevant places of work. A student typically works in an architecture office and assists with various aspects of building design: design drawing, model-making, computer drafting, construction supervision, etc. Work terms also provide opportunities for travel and salaries help pay for a student's academic studies.
By the time you graduate from BEDS, you'll have built the creative foundation, technical skills and professional experience to apply to the Master of Architecture program and begin your journey toward becoming a licensed architect.
Admission requirements
Program-specific admission requirements
To be considered for BEDS admission, you must have completed:
- Two years of university in subjects other than architecture (twenty courses), with at least a B鈥 average (2.5 GPA).
- Two years at a college or institute plus one year of university is also acceptable.听
- A design portfolio
The two years of university must include:
- Two courses, at 1000-level or higher, in a mathematics or science subject: biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, geology, mathematics, physics, or statistics (but not economics, environment, geography, astronomy, management, planning, or psychology). To confirm that a course is acceptable, you may send its calendar description to the Architecture office.
- A course that emphasizes writing skills. Courses at some universities are designated as 鈥渨riting requirement鈥 or 鈥渨riting intensive.鈥 A course that includes formal essay writing is also acceptable.
- Two courses in a humanities or social science subject: anthropology, art history, classics, literature (but not language instruction), history, music history (but not music instruction), philosophy, political science, psychology, sociology, etc. 听
* Priority is given to applicants with a good academic record and creative design ability.
If you are 25 years or older and do not meet all of these academic requirements, you may apply as a mature student, based on other qualifications; however, all applicants must have completed at least one full year of university. To prepare for studio work, applicants are advised to take a course in freehand drawing and/or a material-based subject (e.g., wood, metal, or ceramics). Admission to the BEDS program is competitive, so completing these academic prerequisites does not guarantee admission. 听

Students who have completed a two-year architectural technology program at a college also need to complete one full year of general studies (i.e., non-architecture courses) at a university to be eligible for admission to the B1 term of the BEDS program. Learn more about transfering credits.听
