On Monday, May 30,听we had the pleasure of
welcoming听a large group of new graduates to our DalArchPlan alumni family. Students from five programs in our two Schools walked across the stage at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium.
By the numbers
At this year鈥檚 spring Convocation, we welcomed听52 graduates with Bachelor of Environmental Design degrees. Nine of these students earned听distinctions (a听grade point average of between a 3.7 and 3.84) and three听graduated with Sexton distinction (an average of 3.85 or more).
32 students graduated with a Master of Architecture degree, exactly half female and half male. 听All of these students represented many provinces in Canada. One of our graduates,听Philippa Ovonji Odida,听is from Uganda. She was featured in a special Dal News convocation story, .
We had 29 students graduate with a Bachelor of Community Design,听22 with Honours in either Urban Design and Planning or Environmental Planning and Sustainability, or both. 听These graduates are from Canada, the United States, Egypt, the Bahamas, and China.
18 students graduated with a Master of Planning. They are from Canada, China and Iran. 听One student graduated with a Master of Planning Studies.
Faculty members enjoyed celebrating with their students! Pictured here Here is Eric Rapport from Planning.

A family affair
Families traveled to support their students from all over Nova Scotia and other provinces across Canada, but also from the United States and China.
One of our graduates had his two young children in attendance and another became a new father just 3 weeks before graduation day!

Alumni supporters in attendance included Louis Lawen (BEng鈥94) and Benjie Nycum (MArchFP鈥97),听both of whom support student scholarships.
Friends of the Faculty and members of the professional associations were also on hand to congratulate and take part in the presentations.

Honorary Degree Recipient
Our newest honorary degree recipient,听, attended the ceremony and the convocation teas.
Our Faculty had the honour of hosting听Prof Gehl while he was at Dalhouise. Prof Gehl听participated in all our graduation events and听contributed his vast knowledge and experience in
various other ways as well, including a walk along听Spring Garden Road with members of the Planning听and Design Centre and others working on SGR听improvements; a workshop for colleagues in听professional practice; and a standing听room only public lecture on May 31st in the听Medjuck Building. The Faculty partnered with HRM,听WDCL, and the Halifax Business District Commissionto support these events. Thank you especially to SoP鈥檚听Dr. Eric Rapaport for helping to coordinate Prof听Gehl鈥檚 itinerary, and to TJ Maguire (WDCL and SoP听alumnus) for also helping to host Prof Gehl and taking听time to show him around the South Shore.
One other note-worthy point about Prof Gehl鈥檚 visit:听PLANiFax developed a promotional video for his听public lecture and recorded his visit. If you have not听seen the video, you can view it at听https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2Zr5Q0Xi4
After the ceremony graduates took photos and updated their information at the alumni booth!
