How did Dal prepare you to become a business owner?
ÃÀÅ®×ö°®'s entrepreneurship program within the Faculty of Management was instrumental in shaping my journey as a business owner. The program was incredibly hands-on, focusing on projects, presentations, and in-depth research on real-life companies. We often had the chance to start our own companies within the classroom, which gave me a taste of the challenges and rewards of entrepreneurship. The co-op component of the program was equally valuable, as it allowed me to work with companies with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, giving me practical experience and insights crucial to running my own business.
What is your favourite part of owning/operating Elastics By Us?
My favourite part of owning and operating Elastics By Us is the creative process of developing new colours. It’s incredibly rewarding to experiment with different shades and combinations, knowing that each new colour can bring a unique touch to someone’s style. Beyond that, I love the opportunity to share these creations with others. Seeing how our products resonate with people, whether it’s solving a practical need or simply adding a pop of colour to their day, is what makes this journey so fulfilling.
What is your favourite memory of Dal?
When I had the opportunity to talk with different business owners in class about the businesses we started. It was an incredible experience to get direct feedback and insights from people who had walked the same path I was on. Being able to discuss my own personal business with these seasoned entrepreneurs is something that will stick with me for a long time, especially since most students don’t get such a unique opportunity.
What advice would you give to recent grads embarking on their career journey?
Don’t give up. If you have a passion for something, go for it wholeheartedly. Even if it doesn't work out as planned, that's okay. The important thing is to learn from the experience and use that knowledge to improve and succeed the next time around. Every setback is a stepping stone to growth and eventual success.
What are your hobbies/interests outside of work?
Outside of work, my hobbies and interests include gymnastics and golf. These activities help me stay active and allow me to unwind and enjoy some downtime.
